Dutch Bros has a wide range of drinks ranging from cold brew coffee to tea and energizer slushy-like drinks. It’s a similar joint to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, except they don’t really have any food – instead, their main focus is coffee.
What about Dutch Bros keto options? Are there any sugar-free keto drinks you can enjoy on the go? While they don’t have a keto drink menu, there are several options you can choose from and either ask for the sugar-free version or customize it to your liking.
A Bit about Dutch Bros
Dutch Bros is an American chain founded around 1992. While I can spend a while talking about their history, let’s cut to the chase – what makes them special? Well, Dutch bros coffee is made out of a unique three-bean blend from Brazil, Colombia, and El Salvador.
Dutch Bros menu is also easy to understand, where you can get what you wish for right off the bat without wondering whether venti means medium or large (my biggest pet peeve when it comes to Starbucks, to be honest).
As per keto drinks, you can’t order everything off their menu – yes, the double chocolate mocha sounds phenomenal but it’s not sugar-free, low-carb, or keto-friendly in any way.
To make your Dutch Bros visit easier, here are our top options when you’re on the ketogenic diet:
Keto Americano (hot or iced)
Possibly the best keto staple at any joint out there. Americano is a black, espresso-based drink that originated in Italy. It’s made by combining one or two shots of espresso with hot water. It’s sugar-free, yet it still delivers the classic coffee flavor that is familiar to everyone worldwide.
If you want to make it creamy (and more keto-friendly thanks to a higher fat content!), ask your barista to add heavy whipping cream, half and half, or coconut milk if you’re dairy free. You can also sweeten it with Truvia – don’t worry, this combination is still close to zero carbs and is approved on a low-carb diet.
Keto Cold Brew (toasted or iced)
This type of coffee has been around for decades, but it has recently gained popularity, especially in America. This coffee is brewed using cold water, eliminating the bitterness and acidity associated with hot-brewed coffee, resulting in a smoother and more concentrated coffee.
Cold brew is also made entirely from coffee grounds and water. Since you’re on the keto diet, you can up the fat content by adding heavy whipping cream and personalize it to your liking by adding a sugar-free syrup.
Breve
Ever heard of this drink at your local coffee shops? Dutch Bros keto options include the breve which is simply an espresso-based drink made with half and half in lieu of milk. It’s basically a very Americanized version of the traditional latte.
At the bottom, you’ll get a shot or two of espresso, steamed half and half in the middle and a frothy layer of half and half foam on top. Add sugar-free syrup or Truvia to make it sweet and flavorful without all the carbs.
Blue Rebel (sugar-free)
At Dutch Bros, keto-friendly drinks don’t need to mean coffee only. This Blue Rebel option makes it onto the list of sugar-free drinks and it’s comparable in taste to a Redbull. It’s a blended frozen drink with a powerful punch of caffeine as well.
Peach Rebel (sugar-free)
Same as its sister drink above, the Peach Rebel is a sugar-free drink made with peach flavoring. If you want to read more about my take on sugar-free drinks at Dutch Bros, scroll down to the end of the article to see whether it’s something for you or not.
Paris Tea
You can get a Paris Tea at Dutch Bros – it’s made with peach, passion fruit, orange, and banana. It’s a fruity black tea without all the caffeine found in plain black coffee. Also, don’t worry about the carbs – when I started keto I read through these insane guides that said you should limit fruity teas.
Earl Grey Tea
This one’s a staple! Earl grey has a distinct flavor that comes from the addition of bergamot oil, which gives it its characteristic aroma and an invigorating taste. It’s perfect when sugar-free and doesn’t need any additional sweeteners. When it comes to the keto diet, it’s a popular choice among those who are on a low-carb eating regimen.
Green Tea
The best Dutch Bros keto tea. Actually, green tea is the best tea out there in my opinion. Green tea has so many health benefits it’s difficult to count them all. From improving brain function, and helping prevent diabetes and cardiovascular disease, to fat-burning properties, this keto-friendly drink has it all.
Next to any Dutch Bros keto coffee, green tea may be a better choice for people with anxiety and insomnia because it doesn’t give you those uncomfortable “jitters”.
Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea
Need a sip to satisfy your sweet cravings while keeping it sugar-free? This flavorful punch comes from both the blend of aromatic spices and cinnamon itself. Dutch Bros won’t give you this suggestion, so I will – add a splash of heavy cream to transform it into one of your favorite high-fat, keto drinks.
Decaf Ceylon Tea
Did you know this type of tea is a wonderful source of antioxidants? What if you want something warm (or iced), but tasty? This is a great option for anyone who wants to enjoy the flavor of tea without the boost of caffeine.
Even if we have to keep it sugar-free, you can always add Truvia to make it sweet and keto friendly at the same time.
Does Dutch Bros have sugar-free syrups?
Yes! If you want to spice up your drink with flavor, you need to ask your barista for sugar-free syrups. At the moment, Dutch Bros has several options to choose from:
- Irish cream
- Chocolate macadamia
- Vanilla
- Coconut
- Hazelnut
- Peppermint
- Strawberry
- Raspberry
While I’m happy Dutch Bros keto drinks can be customized in plenty of ways, it’s important to remember that these sugar-free syrups are not by any means nutritious or healthy. There are of course two sides to this argument so I’ll break it down for you and let you decide for yourself.
One serving contains only 1 gram of carbs, a tiny bit of sodium, and essentially no sugar. If you don’t have issues with blood glucose levels and are not worried about insulin spikes, there’s nothing stopping you from making your cold brew (or anything else for that matter) flavored.
On the other hand, each one of these sugar-free syrup choices contain artificial ingredients, fake coloring, and sucralose. I know this increasingly popular sweetener doesn’t contain any calories, but there are studies that suggest consuming it may result in an unexpected side effect – raising your blood sugar.
Keep this in mind when ordering sugar-free drinks. Keto diet can be forgiving, but you don’t want to enjoy five minutes of taste at the expense of your own blood sugar levels.
Does Dutch Bros have keto sweeteners on hand?
There are also three different sugar-free sweeteners to choose from at Dutch Bros:
- Truvia
- Sweet’n’low
- Splenda
As I said when talking about sugar-free syrups, Truvia is your best bet here without spiking your insulin levels. However, if you’ve been on keto long enough you’re probably used to coffee drinks without sugar or any sweeteners.
Does Dutch Bros have dairy-free alternatives?
Yes, they do! Just ask your barista for a plant-based, keto-friendly alternative. They have almond and coconut milk on deck, plus they also have oat milk but that kind isn’t keto so you’re better off skipping it.
Remember, you can always opt for Americano coffee instead or a sugar-free tea if you can’t handle milk-based products.
Our Final Opinion
There are several Dutch Bros keto drinks you can enjoy without getting kicked out of ketosis. Although their menu is filled with drinks that don’t even come close to being low-carb, there are at least ten keto-friendly options to choose from.
The only thing you need to be sure of is when you walk in there you don’t get tempted by anything that isn’t a keto drink!
