Red light therapy manages and treats various problems like chronic skin issues, sports injuries and sleep disorders.
I also wanted to experience these powerful benefits, so I started using the Joovv three years ago.
Three years later, I’ll cover everything you need to know before buying the Joovv. In this Joovv Red Light Therapy review, I’ll go through my experiences with it, some pros and cons and if it’s worth it.
How Does Red Light Therapy Work?
But before we review the Joovv, let’s look at the science behind photobiomodulation.
Red light is in the 625 to 1200 nanometer wavelength, penetrating deep into your body. Where blue light only goes in the first two layers of skin, longer wavelengths penetrate bodily tissues like organs.
Near-infrared lights can even go into your bone, making it perfect for speeding up injury recovery. This penetration acts on the mitochondria, encouraging them to produce more adenosine triphosphate or ATP, which improves your cell’s ability to function.
Clinical trials also show red light therapy can:
- Reduce inflammation
- Increase blood circulation to damaged and soft tissue
With red light therapy, you’re creating the perfect environment for cells to function to their full potential.
Now that we know how red light therapy works, let’s look at my experiences with the Joovv red light panel.
My Experience With Joovv Red Light Therapy
I first bought the Joovv Solo three years ago because I heard about all the powerful benefits like:
- Better skin
- More energy
- Faster wound healing and joint pain recovery
- Better sleep
- Reduced body fat and easier weight loss
- Increased muscle growth
And three years, I feel like it empowered every aspect of my life. I wake with more energy and don’t experience random acne breakouts.
I used the Joovv Solo in the morning to set my circadian rhythm, and this improved my overall quality of life.
I find it easy to use. Download the Joovv mobile app on iOS or Android, and it’ll give you a quick tutorial covering how to use the tool.
Once you’ve connected to Bluetooth and gotten the hang of the app, you can adjust the brightness or set an alarm or timer.
Why I Chose Joovv
But I’ve also used other panels during the past three years, and the Joovv still stands out for multiple reasons:
- Joovv offers a mobile app
- You can set an alarm, so the red light wakes you
- The features allow for endless customization
With the mobile app, I can adjust the brightness, set an automatic timer and turn the light on and off without touching the panel. This level of convenience sets Joovv apart from other brands like Mito and Hooga.
Another feature that I like is the morning alarm. When using other panels, I can only turn it on after I’ve woken up. But the Joovv lets users set an alarm the night before, so it wakes you up with red light.
This alarm was beneficial at the beginning of my red light journey because my circadian rhythm was out of sync. I felt energetic before bed and tired during the day.
But the alarm feature set my circadian rhythm within a few days of use and told my body when it was time to produce adrenaline and cortisol.
The last feature that stood out was the endless customization. It offers 150 LEDs that emit 660 and 850-nanometer wavelengths of light. You can select red light, near-infrared light or both.
It allows you to manage skin conditions like acne and psoriasis with shorter wavelengths and speed up injury recovery using infrared light.
You’ll also find a metal floor base to move the panel anywhere. With other red lights, it has a hook on the back so you can hang it on the door or wall. But this limits where you can do red light therapy.
Even though the Joovv is a full-body panel, it’s portable because you can take it around the house.
What Were The Biggest Benefits I Noticed?
Here are some Joovv light therapy health benefits that stood out to me:
- Better sleep
- More energy
- More motivation
Better Sleep
The main reason why I started low level light therapy is that my sleep quality was bad even though I got eight hours of sleep every night. But soon after I started using red light, I noticed I woke up before my alarm clock went off.
My body repaired itself in less time, so I could sleep less while feeling better.
And clinical research backs this up. A 2012 study on Chinese basketball players showed that a therapeutic dose of red light therapy for 14 days improved sleep quality by upregulating melatonin. This positively impacted every aspect of their life, including physical performance and reduced muscle pain.
So if you’re struggling to build a regular sleep cycle, consider sitting in front of the Joovv red light a few hours before bed. But I’d also recommend implementing other good sleeping habits like:
- Avoiding coffee before bed
- Sleeping in a cool environment
- Blocking all light from your room
- Not looking at blue light a few hours before bed
- Sleeping and waking up at the same time every day
More Energy
I woke up with noticeably more energy. My energy levels throughout the day were also more stable. I didn’t experience unexpected tiredness during the afternoon.
This increased energy is due to better quality sleep. My body was able to repair itself more efficiently.
But the boost in energy is also a result of increased ATP production. Because red light and near-infrared light can penetrate deep into your body, it acts on the mitochondria, allowing them to produce more energy.
This energy is in the form of ATP, and the more ATP your cells can produce, the better your overall quality of life.
More Motivation
A few days after using the Joovv Solo for the first time, my mood improved and my motivation to get things done skyrocketed.
Several studies show red light therapy treats seasonal affective disorder within a handful of treatments.
More appropriately labeled SAD, seasonal affective disorder triggers depression symptoms during the winter months. This leaves people unmotivated to complete work and other daily responsibilities.
Fortunately, it’s easily treatable with red and natural light therapy. If you find yourself feeling sad and unmotivated during winter, get yourself a Joovv Solo since it’ll leave you with a positive mood and more motivation.
What Joovv Device I Would Buy
These are the three best Joovv class II medical devices:
With all red light devices it comes down to how much money you are willing to spend. The larger, more powerful lights are better, but they cost more. If you are looking for the best red light, you will want the Joovv Quad 3.0 because it outputs the highest amount of red and infrared light. If you just want to experience the benefits without spending a fortune then you may want the Joovv Solo or the Joovv Go 2.
Joovv Solo
My favorite Joovv red light therapy device is the Solo. It’s a well-rounded red light panel perfect for red light beginners and veterans.
The Joovv Solo is the best introductory light on the market. It is affordable and offers a good amount of power and light coverage. This light is modular so it can be expanded in the future.
- Best value for those new to red light therapy
- Single Joovv light allow for adequate exposure
- Able to expand with additional panels later
With 150 LEDs shining light over your entire body, you optimize
The sides and back of the Joovv Solo are plastic, so it’s lightweight while still keeping its quality. Combined with the metal floor base, you can take this red light anywhere with you in the house.
You’ll find additional features like:
- Multiple setup options
- Ambient mode
- Increased range
As soon as you unbox the Joovv Solo, you’ll notice how seamless the setup is. Joovv offers three different setup options:
- Nano wall system
- Door mount system
- Boot floor stand
These options allow you to set up your Joovv around your red light therapy needs.
The ambient mode is helpful if you struggle with an unbalanced circadian rhythm. This mode emulates light as the sun goes down, which upregulates melatonin production.
You’ll also find the Joovv Solo has a larger working range than other red lights, so you don’t have to stand close to it.
Joovv Go 2.0
But if you’re always on the go and looking for something more portable, consider the Joovv Go 2.0.
The Joovv Go 2.0 is a bit different from their other light options. This is for specifically targeting problem areas and is not sufficient for full body treatment.
- Great for spot treatment
- Portable and good for travel
It offers red light in the 660 to 880-nanometer wavelength. So although it doesn’t shine light longer than 1000 nanometers, it’s still a good option for skin conditions and injury recovery.
The light intensity is 17 to 73mW/cm2, providing your body with photobiomodulation benefits without damaging the skin. It also emits low electromagnetic fields or EMFs, making it safe for regular use.
Here are some Joovv Go 2.0 benefits that stood out to me:
- It’s super portable
- You can charge it wirelessly
- It’s affordable
The Joovv Go 2.0 fits in the palm of your hand so you can carry it anywhere. The dimensions are six inches long, four inches wide and 1.32 pounds heavy. So if you’re traveling, simply pop it in your suitcase.
Another helpful feature that the Go 2.0 offers is its wireless charging. You no longer have to plug your red light device into a wall. Simply place the Go 2.0 on your charging dock, and you’re good to go.
Lastly, the Joovv Go 2.0 is affordable. Opt for the portable version if you’re looking to get into red light therapy but don’t want to spend money on a full-body panel. And once you start experiencing the benefits of photobiomodulation, you can decide if you want to upgrade.
Joovv Quad 3.0
The Joovv Quad 3.0 is four Solo’s put together. This makes it a good option if you own a Joovv Solo and want to take your red light therapy experience to the next level.
The Joovv Quad 3.0 is an extremely powerful red light system. 4 Joovv panels allow for red and infrared light to hit your full body which minimizes how long it takes for adequate exposure.
- Most powerful Joovv Light
- Get benefits of red light in less time
- 4 panels allow for full body exposure
It offers 600 LEDs instead of the Solo’s 150, so you’re increasing the intensity and optimizing the full-body benefits of red light therapy.
Like the Solo, the Joovv Quad comes with three setup options. These include the wall, door and mobile stand to do red light therapy anywhere in your home. This level of convenience makes sticking to red light therapy easy.
Here are some Quad benefits that you’ll find helpful:
- A two-year warranty
- Affordable monthly payment plans
- Upgradable kit options
With the two-year warranty, if anything happens to your Joovv Quad, feel free to message customer support, and they’ll replace your panel as soon as possible.
But if the Quad is a bit too expensive, you’ll be happy to know that Joovv offers affordable monthly payment plans. This way, you don’t have to pay the total amount immediately.
You’ll also find upgradeable kit options on their websites, like the nightstand wireless charger and Go Dock.
Now, let’s compare Joovv to the competition.
Joovv vs Mito
Joovv is a better option if you’re looking for the best possible panel that offers all the bells and whistles, while Mito is for you if you’re on a budget and need more bang for your buck.
But what sets Joovv apart is the sheer number of features it offers and the personalization it brings. It comes with 15 kit options, eight adjustable light modes, a maximum treatment range of 24 inches and pulse technology.
You can also control your Mito from the app, allowing you to set the alarm, timer or brightness.
Mito is more basic and affordable. It costs $8.02 per watt, far less than the Joovv, but you won’t access advanced features.

Joovv vs Hooga
Hooga is a new and growing red light company founded in 2019. They are becoming increasingly popular amongst red light enthusiasts looking for a more affordable panel.
It’s also medical grade and lightweight, but like the Mito, it falls short compared to the vast amount of Joovv features like customizable setup, mobile app and red light alarm clock.

Final Thoughts On Joovv Red Light Therapy
Joovv offers powerful red light devices that allow you to experience the benefits of photobiomodulation therapy like increased blood flow and muscle recovery within a few sessions.
If you’re getting started with red light therapy, the Joovv Go 2.0 is a solid starting point. And if you need a full-body panel, the Joovv Solo offers every feature you’ll need, and it’s easy to customize around your needs. You can even add additional panels to create your own infrared sauna. In short, Joovv is worth your time and money.
